The Capital of Kazakhstan

The name of this city was changed in March this year to Nur–Sultan, in honour of Nursultan Nazarbayev, who was the country's President from 24 April 1990 to 20 March 2019. He was elected to this post following independence; according to Wikipedia he was the only candidate on the ballot paper and won 95% of the vote. (Presumably the other 5% were 'spoiled' – although you'd think the Kazakh authorities would wish to sweep that under the carpet.)

The city was founded in 1830. In 1992 it was renamed Akmola ("white grave"), having had three or four previous names in its 162–year history. It replaced Almaty as the national capital on 10 December 1997, and on 6 May 1998 it was renamed Astana, which means "capital city" in Kazakh.

It would be harsh not to allow "Astana" as a correct answer to this question at this point in time, unless you'd mentioned the fact that it had changed. But "Nur–Sultan" is actually the correct answer.
